Nanning may not be on many peoples' tourist maps and i was there recently for work. There's only one direct flight daily by AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur to Nanning. It's located at the border of Vietnam and Halong Bay is 3 hours bus ride from Nanning.
Feeling quite adventurous and the need to sample local delicacies in new place brought me to the Nanning Muslim Restaurant. It's located in a suburb and almost 20 minutes taxi ride from the central CBD of Mingxu Avenue thus it's highly recommended that you have the Chinese address of this restaurant if you dont speak Mandarin.
It's situated in the same building of the Nanning Islamic Association, a multi storey building whereby the ground floor houses a noodle restaurant and the Muslim Restaurant is located at the second level. I was there during lunch hour and not a single customer was there but the noodle restaurant was quite busy.
I ordered the black pepper beef
and the stir fried aubergine
they also served piping hot chinese tea
the overview of the restaurant
as you can see, they served big portion of dishes here and best be shared. That also justified the high price of their dishes. Taste wise, they were quite mildly spiced and may not be tempting for those who prefer spicy food like yours truly.Anyway there's not many option for halal food in Nanning and do give this place a try if you happen to be here.Cheers.
